Heri Winarko’s Testimony
Sampoerna School of Education

Good afternoon. Allow me to introduce my self. My name is Heri Winarko, I am 19 years old Sampoerna School of Education Students, English Language Teaching Program 2011, from Sungai Lilin, South Sumatera.
Growing up, I have always been a passionate learner. During junior high school, I walk about 7 kilometers every morning to get to my school.
Despite my passion for study, I almost did not continue high school. Simply because I did not have money to continue. My parents want me to get the highest education I can get, but working hard everyday in a Palm field and in construction site could not pay my school expenses. My parents even put our house on mortgage for me to get me good education, but still could not cover it.
It did not stop me for trying, trying, and trying. I finally able to continue high school because I get a scholarship in SMA Negeri 2 Sekayu, one of the international standard state high school. Even though I need to live far away from my beloved parents, I still do it. The most important thing I can study. I never take this opportunity for granted, by becoming the 1st winner of economic Olympic in Musi Banyuasin, South Sumatera.
When high school finished, I got accepted in many university including the one with partial scholarship. But then the same problem happened. I did not have the money to continue. I decided to postpone my study, work for one year, save same money, and continue in the next year.
At that time, I saw Sampoerna School of Education Aplication. I applied there and passed the admission test in batch 3. But still, I can not to Jakarta because of the transportation cost. I consulted this problem with my first year Physic Teacher, Mr Nanang, who is happened to be one of Sampoerna Foundation – USP Teacher. I was surprised because after hearing my story, he gave me his money and ask me to go to Jakarta. I will never forget his kindness forever.
I arrived at Merak harbour, did not know where to go. This is my first time to Jakarta. Fortunately I got some help from my SSE seniors kak Budi, Mba Rina, kak Reza and kak Ulfan. They directed me from there to Pancoran to do the next test.
My story did not stop there. To get document from Koperasi Siswa Bangsa, my father and I ride motorcycle the whole afternoon to Betung on fasting day, and we almost got accident, and the document is not there. It finally arrived safely at my house the next morning, just in time before the deadline.
Because of Mr. Nanang help, my parents’ big will, seniors help and off course student financing from Sampoerna School of Education, I am now a proud student of Sampoerna School of Education. I am the first generation in my family who gets into college. I want to make my parents proud and in the future to make my nation proud of me.
