Importance of a "Well-Managed" classroom
Well-Managed Classroom is very
important for a teacher. As teachers
we
have to pay attention the entire situations that happen in the classroom. Besides, classroom need to be
managed effectively in order to create positive classroom environment (safe,
comfortable, and enhance concentration) that may contribute to the success of
effective teaching and learning activity.It also
contributes
to feelings of emotional and physical safety for students. It
means that the student can feel the sense of belonging of the classroom,
because they obey the rules together. They take care toward each other and
therefore, they can feel safe (physically and emotionally) during the learning
process.
Then, the
goals of classroom management itself are createing a community of trust. Here,
by building and obeying the classroom rules, both teacher and students will have a good trust between them. Next is developingstudents responsibilitythat is very important for the students, to be responsible towards their learning process. By learning to develop their personal responsibility in the classroom (from the classroom rules) students will feel that their attitude will affect/have consequences their life in the future. The last is Maximize time and opportunity for learning means by conducting a good classroom management, teachers can effectively spend time according to the lesson plan and can provide students’ engagement in the class if there is a spare time.

In managing the classroom,we
have to observe and understand the characteristic of the students, so that we know the way to communicate and giving
the material or leasson to
them. Then, it
influencesus
to give the roles and subjected our
students in the classroom without making
them difficult
because of our
activity. For the classroom, we
also have to make sure that the classroom is suitable and comfort to learn. Besides, not only managing but wealso have
to maintain our
classroom management to make our
lesson always success.
As
teachers,
we have to maintain our classroom management to get successful
lesson in every class that weteach. After understanding the situation
in the classroom and finding the way to manage the classroom, the teacher will
know how to manage or handle the class. The teacher should accustom his/her self in the classroom; do approaching and
getting closer with our
students. It will make the teacher automatically able to maintain theWell-classroom management because we already understood the situation in the
classroom.However, teachershave
to have many plans
when teaching in the classroom because unexpected plan will be easily happen in
every teaching. So,
the teacher will be still able to maintain the classroom. The teacher also has to be
consistent in manage his classroom, the changes may be happen, but make sure
that the students will receive his way in manage the classroom.
Another issue is about the important of classroom
management and teacher’s knowledge and teaching techniques. There is no more
important between classroom management and teacher’s knowledge or teaching
techniques, both of them are just same. They have important role to make successful lesson in the
classroom.Classroom management needs
to handle and control the students and situation in the classroom. It can build
the circumstances in the class. It will be good or bad circumstanses is depending on the classroom
management of the teacher. Then, the teacher also needs good knowledge and
technique in explaining the material to smoothen the successful lesson after
getting success in manages the class. So, classroom management and teacher’s
knowledge are important and related each other.
Here, there are 5 styles
of arrangement of classroom management that can be choice for you (teachers) to
manage your classroom well. The first is Auditorium, all the students
sit and facing the teacher. Next is clusterwhere the student works in small group, closely
bunched of groups of 4 to 8. Seminaris student sits in circular, square,
or U shaped arrangements. Then, Off-set means mall numbers of students sit at
tables but are not directly across from each other. The last is face to face style, here the students
sit facing each other. So, for you teacher(s).. Let’s prepare your self to manage your classroom
well!

Teacher Characteristic

Have you feel bored and demotivated to learn in the classroom? Perhaps the teacher in your classroom did not using learning-focused classroom. According to Egen and Kauchack (2011) there are four components that can be used to promote students’ motivation in learning which are self-regulation, teacher characteristics, climate variables, and instructional variables. Here, I want to focus on the teacher characteristics. Teacher characteristics also contains several items such personal teaching efficacy, modelling and enthusiasm, caring and teacher expectation.
Personal teaching efficacy, it is
related with teacher’s belief that can influence all students. The teacher
should believe that his students can success in the learning process with or
without prior knowledge. In my opinion, it will be better for students to have
prior knowledge about the topic that the teachers are going to teach, because
it helps learners to construct a concept from the topic and success in the
learning process.
Modelling and enthusiasm, it is communicating genuine interest. Everything
what the teachers do can have powerfull impact to the student. If the teachers
look enthusias in the learning process, it can influence the students
motivation to learn in the classroom because the student modelling the teacher.
Through this characteristic the teacher easily can influence the student even
only from something that the teacher just say like give the students
motivational word. From the word that students hear, there is a big possibility
they will imitate and make it as their belief or mindset in their own thinking.
The next characteristic of good
teacher is caring, to show this characteristic the teacher should meet the
students needs for belonging and relatedness to show their respect to the
students. In my experience, there are some teacher who could not
remember their students’ name one by one. For me, knows the students’ name one
by one is very important for the teacher, moreover it is also one of simple
ways to communicate caring even there are still many ways to communicate caring
such eye contact, smile, using gesture,
spend time with the students and etc.
The last characteristic of good
teacher is teacher expectation. Teacher expectation increasing perception of
students’ competence. As teachers, we must set expectation for our students after they learn
something new, we should
expect that they can understand the learning process and reach the lesson
objective. Rosenthal (1973), suggest some treatments in learning process to the students as
mediating factors, like: socio-emotional climate, input, response opportunity,
and feedback. Set high
expectation to students also relates to students’ self-fulfilling prophesy. According
to Robert Merton, self-fulfilling prophesy means that erroneous beliefs about
people can bring about the realization of those beliefs. For example, the
teacher says to the students that he does not have the ability to do something,
then the student will eventually start to behave as what his teacher expects.
For me, as teacher candidate, I will set high expectation
to the students that they can do what I expect, can get
what I expect and can understand
the learning process, and reach the lesson objective also.

Theoretical Views of Motivation
(Motivating and managing students for effective learning)
Motivation is an interesting topic to be discussed. There are many
perspectives on motivation. To know the truth, as a teacher candidate
there is a time that motivate me or not. From what I have learn, motivation is
a process of thinking that can force me to do something toward some objectives
that I want.
There are two things that influence motivation. First is intrinsic motivation. It is an internal motivation in our self that influenced by our self to get our own sake and it will increase when there is a personal choice. Think of intrinsic motivation, there are five factors that can promote intrinsic motivation. There are challenges, control, curiosity, fantasy, and aesthetic value. Second is extrinsic motivation. It is usually influenced by punishments or rewards. Therefore, students will do something if there is something or reinforcement that can motivate them. In conclusion, motivation can be in and out from our mind. I mean, just keep in touch with your motivation.
Another things that I have learn is theories of motivation. There are four theories of motivation: behavioral theories, sociocultural theories, and humanistic theories, cognitive and social cognitive theories. First is about behavioral theories. It is focus on the reflection of experiences from the environment. The experience of the students can influence the behavioral changes. As a teacher we can stimulate our students by giving them a reward or a punishment. Then, it will increase students' external motivation and the result of it will be effective reinforcement. Second is to support students learning in their participation in communities, social interaction will construct students' knowledge. It is called sociocultural theories. Third is humanistic theories. This theory is about fulfilling a full potential as human beings. As a teacher candidate to make a good classroom environment that students believe they can learn and expect, this theory is appropriate for this condition. Fourth is cognitive and social cognitive theories. There are three factors for this theory. There are personal factors, behavioral factors, and environment factors. All of them are related each other. Students will observe and try to understand about their self by observing their environment. Then they will apply what they have got from understanding their self and their environment in their behavior.
As a teacher candidate motivating and managing students for effective learning is not easy as water flow in the river. There are many challenges to support them in learning. By the time, me as a teacher candidate, there will be a time for my turn to increase my students in the future.

Developing Interest in Learning Activities
To develop students’ interest, this reflection is focus on introductory focus, personalization, involvement, and feedback.
Introductory
focus is focus on attracting students’ attention by linking students’
prior knowledge to the new knowledge/lesson and gives a limitation to
the students. The first step for the teacher is giving a concrete
example such as daily life conversation. Then second step is teacher
uses problem based learning by giving a problem and ask the students.
Not only give the students a real example, but teacher also has to tells
the students about the goal of the lesson and give them an expectation
of the learning. To do the step of introductory focus, the method of the
teacher has to explain the lesson from general to specific. It will
lead the students more focus and interest in learning activities.
Developing
interest in learning activities, teacher need to know the background of
the students. In personalization, teacher can relate the lesson by
relating the topic with students’ personal characteristic or their
background. The involvement of the students also will automatically
increase. By relating students’ background, it can activate students’
interaction to involve in the learning activity by their own will. The
activities that can increase students’ intrinsic interest are by using
hands-on activities such as practical activities and using open-ended
question such as discussion activity.
In
the learning process give some feedback to the students can increase
their motivation in learning. Feedback is comment or opinion toward
students’ work. It can be form as a written or spoken. There are two
kinds of feedback. First is evaluative feedback such as give a grade for
students’ summative result, give a judgment for single measurement,
give it in general way not specific feedback, and then evaluative
feedback can link to the reward or punishment. Second is instructional
feedback such as give some point for students’ improvement, use some
example in relation to students’ work, and teacher can provide some
strategies to build students motivation for moving forward.
The
ideas to start the lesson by providing the students an introductory
focus and teacher knows the personalization of each students, it can
involve students’ interest in the learning process. Moreover, if the
teacher can give a good feedback. The students will more interest and
have motivation in the learning process.
